Develop your Memory
May 22, 2010Most of us have a problem in remembering important events, names, numbers, other details of people essential to us, even forgetting our daily tasks. It is advisable to put attention into this dilemma.
Well, for some reason we don’t have to lose hope. The good news is that all of us can improve our memory and develop an excellent memory by learning memory improvement techniques.
Here are some few tips on how to remember what we usually forget:
* Numbers – this is the most top problems of all. Only few people are good at remembering numbers, there are those who can’t remember even their own cellular number. To solve this, break long numbers down into meaningful chunks. For instance, if you want to remember your bank account number 08150630, it is easy to remember if you think of it as 08:15 (breakfast time) and 06:30 (dinner time).
* Names – when somebody is introduce to you or when meeting someone, repeat that person’s name aloud as soon as you can. It is also good to look closely to that person and repeat remembering his name silently to yourself 10 times.
* Daily Household Chores – If there’s something you need to do, don’t keep on remembering it. Instead, always put a small note on your table or anywhere that you can see always for you to be reminded.
* Shopping list – before going out for a shopping always prepare a list of the items and goods you need to buy. By doing this you can save time and exert less effort while you are in a grocery store.
* Visualize – A mental image is a picture you make up that includes the information you want to remember. Substituting numbers and letters into a one image will help you to learn and recall. For instance, you park your car at lane 4B just think of four (4) bananas.
* Write it down – This is the key answer to a person with memory problem. In a survey of memory experts, their top techniques for not forgetting important facts or events is simply “make notes”. Writing forces you to focus your attention and provides a backup in case you memory fails.
You don’t have to worry about loss of memory. The key answer lies within you on how you handle such problem. Names, faces and facts first enter short-term memory and usually stay there less than a minute, to transfer the information into long-term memory focus on it for a minimum of eight second.
